Project Overview

Gatepower was engaged by CSR at their Springvale facility to design and deliver a fully automated safety-controlled access system around a sand loading area used by an industrial tractor and hopper loading operation.

The objective was not simply to install gates. CSR needed a smarter system that could automatically secure the area whenever the sand loading tractor was operating, while still allowing safe and controlled vehicle and pedestrian movement when required.

The completed project combined custom fabricated gates, perimeter fencing, advanced automation, PLC programming, radar detection systems and integrated warning infrastructure into a single coordinated industrial safety system.

Custom PLC-Controlled Industrial Gate System

Gatepower designed and delivered a custom automated compound access system that secured the sand loading area whenever the tractor moved into operation.

The system was built around a custom programmed PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), allowing all automation, safety devices and warning systems to operate together as one integrated solution.

Automated Factory Access Control Logic

The system was designed to operate automatically with minimal manual intervention. A loop detector sensor was installed within the tractor parking zone. Once the tractor moved out of its designated loading position, the PLC system automatically initiated gate closure procedures to isolate the loading area.

Multiple radar sensors were installed to monitor large vehicle movement zones. These provided broader detection coverage than traditional photocells and reduced the risk of collisions involving trucks, forklifts or trailers.

The pedestrian gate was also integrated into the safety sequence and automatically locked whenever the loading zone became active.

  • Temporary gate override if a vehicle remained inside the loading area

Automated Factory Access Control

Commercial Telescopic Cantilever Gate Installation

One of the most technically unique parts of the project was the telescopic cantilever gate system. Traditional floor track gates were ruled out due to the heavy truck and forklift traffic. Swing gates and standard cantilever gates were also unsuitable because of available space.

Telescopic cantilever gates are significantly more complex than standard gate systems and are far less common due to their engineering and fabrication requirements. However, for this site, it provided the most practical long-term outcome.
